Spiroff never truly knew what she had to work with until the festival began. There was uncertainty regarding the encampment and who would be there each year. “For the size of our festival, it was unbelievable to have so many guns.” ![]() ![]() She built it up into something special, which included a Civil War band and a full Civil War encampment including a doctor, with some help from her husband, Nick, who went along with her to meet re-enactors at places such as Greenfield Village and encourage them to participate. It started out as “a tent in the park with re-enactors from the historical society,” she recalled. The biggest job she took on was running the Civil War encampment at the festival. She pointed out that she’s just one of many volunteers who helped to start the event. A member of the original committee organizing the event, time has not slowed her down, though the work she does to help Milford Memories succeed has changed over the years. “I’ve done everything but trash,” Spiroff laughed.
